KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 14 (Bernama) -- Former Liverpool striker, Robbie Fowler is the latest big name to confirm participation in the forthcoming English Premier League (EPL) Masters Football Malaysia Cup 2011 presented by Standard Chartered on March 13, at the Putra Stadium in Bukit Jalil here.
In a statement Chief Marketing Officer of Football Focus Asia, Gavin O'Luanaigh said the four teams competing will be Liverpool Masters, Manchester United Masters, EPL All Stars Masters and the Malaysian Masters.
"These great teams will be participating in this established indoor six-a-side football tournament that has been running in the UK to packed crowds for over 10 years.
"As well as stars from Liverpool FC, football fans can also expect big names such as Andrew Cole, Gaizka Mendieta, Jesper Blomqvist, Patrik Berger and Faustino Asprilla who will mesmerize fans with epic football skills," he said.
He said the Malaysian Masters would comprise ex-nationals Mazlan Wahid, Yap Kam Choon, K. Gunalan, Ahmad Shahrul Azhar, Shahrin Majid, Azrin Shah Zainal, See Kin Seng, P. Somasundram, Anuar Abu Bakar, Ghani Malek, Khan Hung Meng and Zainal Abidin Hassan.
Fowler, 36, made his debut for Liverpool FC on Jan 13, 1993 and scored a massive 183 goals, making him one of the clubs top scorers and fourth-highest goalscorer in the history of EPL.
He will be joining other big EPL stars such as Steve McManaman, Rob Jones, Phil Babb, Stephane Henchoz and Vladimir Smicer who have vowed to wrest the trophy back from arch rivals Manchester United.
Liverpool previously lifted the Masters Trophy in 2008, led by legendary striker Ian Rush, beating Manchester United in the final. Manchester later won the trophy in 2009 in a thrilling final that went down to penalties.
